Multiple sclerosis is a condition that can affect both men and women. This disease is however most commonly diagnosed in women, mostly between the ages 20 to 40. However, anyone can be diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, regardless of age.

MS is caused when damage is produced to the myelin sheath, which is the protective cover on the nerve cells. However, what determines this to occur still remains unknown. Multiple sclerosis is considered to be a curious condition, as doctors have been unable to determine why it is formed in some people.

Still, specialists say that there are a number of factors which can play an important role in multiple sclerosis development. These factors can range from genetic infections to the age and the gender of the patient. Certain infections and other autoimmune diseases are believed to favor the development of MS, too.

In fact, multiple sclerosis is considered to be caused by a combination of genetics, environmental factors and other diseases the patient has suffered from in the past. This condition is not simple to deal with, this is why it is commonly said that multiple sclerosis deeply affects lifestyle.

All patients want to find an effective way of overcoming multiple sclerosis as soon as developed. There are various treatments which promise to offer patients relief. However, only some of these treatments can work effectively in helping patients forget all about the struggle linked to multiple sclerosis development.
